something to honk about

I’m so happy to see Gwen Stefani on the Voice

I was in high school when No Doubt’s album Tragic Kingdom was released and I went out and bought it immediately after hearing songs like “Don’t Speak” on the radio. Gwen Stefani was tough and strong, but also pretty and feminine. She created her own clothes and studded her bra straps with rhinestones. I thought she was the coolest.

She has always rocked her own style. Her music has always been completely unique and fresh. And that is truly admirable in a day and age when there are so many copycats and so much fakeness.

Sidenote: she is married to Gavin Rossdale who is the finest man to have ever walked the earth. They have three kids together. Gavin Rossdale was in a band called Bush, also back when I was in high school; the walls of my bedroom were pasted with magazine covers bearing his studly image.

So, I’m having fun watching her as a coach on the Voice, picking her team during the blind auditions. I like Pharrell too, for sure, he’s very talented. But me and Gwen go way back, you know?

I always want to hear from YOU out there. What are your memories of Gwen Stefani and No Doubt back in the day? Who is your favorite coach on the Voice?

I would like to meet Gwen, since my last name is also Stefani. I couldn’t carry a tune in a bucket.

I like her duet with Bradley from Sublime, “Saw Red”. She was a cool chick back in the early days for sure. I don’t know about B-A-N-A-N-A-S though. Bush had some epic songs about insignificant details. “Machine Head”? Isn’t that about tuning his guitar?

I am LOVING Gwen and Pharrell! They are my new favorites, and that means a lot because I love Adam and Blake. Gwen and Pharrell have way more experience and success than any other coach that’s ever been on, and Gwen is so much better than Christina or Shakira. Just love all around.

I will say this: I started listening to Shakira back when my best friend brought home a cassette tape of her music after spending a month in Central America during high school. It was all in Spanish. We listened the heck out of that tape, it was great. So I like Shakira, too. But yeah, Gwen is tops.

Me too! They’re both great judges, in my opinion. I hope they stay for a while. They are both very talented!

Love Gwen! No doubt was my favorite band in high school. I love how she dresses her cute kids, not to mention her awesome style. My fave song is probably ‘What you waiting for’. Great video too

Maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure bands were better back when we were in high school.

I agree, I have a harder time finding music I love these days. I’ve been getting into scores recently. Hans Zimmer, Bear McCreary. Hope that doesn’t mean I’m getting old!

I had just graduated from high school when I heard Just a Girl on Clueless. I’ve had a girl crush on her ever since. If I had a little more chutzpah, I would’ve slapped a bindi in the middle of my forehead šŸ˜‰

Always loved her for those reasons too. I remember seeing Spider Webs on MTV as a lil girl and thinking “This chick is LEGIT” If I can get The Voice on Hulu I will def watch that! Thanks for the tip and memories (:
