Do you click on tags in the tag cloud?
Do you search tags in the reader?
What are your favorite tags to follow in the reader?
ETA: The tags I follow are: Blogging, Children, Environment, Family, Great Outdoors, Hiking, House Guests, Humor, In-Laws, Love, Marriage, Mother-in-law, Motherhood, Nature, Nerd, New Blog, Parenting, Pets, Pop Culture, Public School, Sharing, Spirituality.
Am definitely a tagging person! Mainly all things food related, Korea and Japan. But I also sometimes tag: tea, postcrossing, cartoon, random, art, home made and haiku.
I find tagging is great tool to find other blogs 🙂

I do click on some tags out of curiosity. But, in general, I do not follow any tags. They’re simply a tool to go down a rabbit trail when I’m researching a subject. 😉

Yep, I know how that can go.

I searched tags way back when I first joined but now not so much. I stick with the stuff I subscribe to and blogs they recommend.

Right on. Thanks for sharing that.

Here’s a question: do you alter your tagging depending on which tags get you the most hits? One of my top three is “silver” so now I more consciously tag silver related posts with the word silver.

I try to choose a couple from the WordPress list of most common tags – what you get if you click on “explore” – for each post, as well as more specific ones related to my topic. But I don’t really pay attention to which ones are my most popular.

I’m always looking for new, interesting blogs to read so I search through tags regularly. I follow quite a few tags. Some of my favorites are humor, movies, lists, books and horror.

I haven’t used this search feature much. Sometimes when I post a review I’ll search for the series I covered to see what other people thought of it.

Yeah, I like to see what other people are writing about the topics I’m covering too, but only sometimes. Sometimes I like to pretend I’m the only one covering a certain topic.

I’ve never searched tags, but maybe I should start… 😉

I have never searched for tags, I often forget to put them on my posts, and I rarely click on tags in tag clouds. I guess because I’m lazy 😉

Sometimes I use them to see what other bloggers are posting about topics that I’m writing about.

I like tags. It helps me see what other people are up to.

That’s why I like the tag cloud, it gives me a quick visual description of someone’s blog interests.

If I use the tags at all, it’s so intermittent that I don’t even notice I’m doing it. I think I still scan the beginning of articles to see if they catch my interest, and I return a lot to favorite writers (I follow approx. 150-160 Blogs, and I like to keep up with all of them at least a little).

I see you are making good use of tags on your posts. I like how yours look, on your theme too, the way they are shown each inside its own box. It looks nice.

I’m slightly embarrassed to admit that you noticed far more about my tags and my tag use than I did. Does this mean I have to put you on the payroll?

I guess I have tried to use them as I post something, in a limited way but I have no clue about using them to search or really using them to advantage on my offerings…..

I also like to see the tag cloud widget on other people’s blogs because it gives me a quick idea of the topics they write most about.

Mine is on the right sidebar of each post, under the title Honking Tags

Oh yeah

I think I found it and did it, but it does not show on main page, only on selected articles.

Right, you use the same theme I use, Suburbia (which I think is a great theme), which doesn’t have a sidebar for widgets on the main page. I think it works fine that way, since the reader is going to spend most of their time on the individual post pages anyway.

Yes, I liked your page layout, which is why I switched to that one 😉 I found the feature and I’ve begun using it. I think I need to find more tag words though. I’ll look at yours for ideas! 😉

If I see the name of an author (whom I like) in a tag cloud, I’ll click on that. I usually do give a tag cloud a quick glance. I would be more likely to click on a proper noun than a common noun, for whatever reason.

Interesting. I only have a couple of those in my tag cloud and they are not authors. 😉

I probably click on a specific author’s name because it suggests that I might connect to the blogger through that shared liking for the author? But it certainly doesn’t mean that there aren’t many other ways to connect to the blogger; in fact, that has been one of the exciting things about blogging: discovering how similar bloggers can, despite different nationalities and ages

Same here. I’m aware of tags but not a tag cloud. Time to go do some Internet research for the both of us I think.

The tag cloud is a WordPress widget. It is in the right sidebar of this post under the title Honking Tags. Each word is sized in relation to the number of posts tagged with that word.

Does clicking the tag cloud pull up all your posts tagged that way? Or does it pull up all WP posts, including yours, that are tagged that way?

Just my own. Or whomevers blog it is on, theirs.

Tags can help your posts show up in the WordPress reader when people are searching by subject.

I use the tag cloud if a blog has one. Yours has, and I’ve used it.
I don’t search via tags, although goodness knows what Google gets up to.
Favorite tags? Don’t have any.
Good questions all. I might try a similar survey on my blog. Thanks!

I stopped using Tags about three months ago and concentrated on just the use of Categories. You will find there is a bit of debate about this if you Google it… I’ve noted no difference in my view count per day over the last weeks.

Plus… I remember feeling really lonely as a new mom and I want these ladies to know there is a community who is there for them!!
