The Honking Goose

something to honk about

a skirt is an appropriate piece of clothing for a woman

It’s not the reason you think.  This is not a post about sexism or misogyny.  It is a simple matter of anatomy.  And freedom.

Peeing Outdoors.

That is the reason.  When men want to pee outside they turn their back and they’re being more or less discreet about it, right?  Well, in a skirt (not a mini-skirt) a woman can be discreet as well.  We can simply crouch under our little clothing tent and go.  With a little practice, we can even look like we’re not even peeing while doing it.  To the untrained eye, we might just appear be searching for something we dropped.

Yep, peeing outdoors.  Because indoor plumbing is not always an option, depending on where you are.

I’m sure not saying that women should wear skirts.  That would be stupid.  Women should wear whatever the hell they want to wear.  I’m just pointing at that in those moments where peeing outdoors becomes either desirable or necessary, a skirt can help you go with the flow.

Do I think that this could be one of the main, if not THE main, reason why women traditional have worn skirts in so many cultures around the world and through time?  Yes, yes I do.

What do you think?

Exactly ! I did this on along hike this summer . My, date (it was not a first date) was like, “are you sure ? I’ll be a lookout…” I said “I’m wearing a skirt, I there’s nothing to see.” Men have had the monopoly on peeing outdoors for too long.

Exactly it is so practical. I’m glad to hear from someone else who has done this too. I declare, henceforth, peeing outdoors will be an equal opportunity venture!

Considering how long men have worn skirted clothing, I think it’s just because a skirt’s way easier to make than, say, pants.

I could see the peeing argument although I personally suck at peeing in a skirt. I’ve only been forced to a few times and…well it wasn’t good.

Really I think it would make peeing easier for men, too. I’m told a zipper fly is not that practical, really. 🙂

What a fun post. Glad you found my site and glad I’m here looking around. Never thought that heavy about skirts, since I’ve not worn one in years. Love your creative site and posts. I’ll be back to read more!

Ha! Awesome. Yes u agree. I have recently mastered peeing in the sand at the beach by casually sitting and sliding my suit to the side(nope,no sand in cooch). In broad day light. With people around. I feel confident I’m being casual enough that nobody notices, but a skirt would definitely make things a little easier.

Hiking skirts are very liberating too.

Hmmm…not sure about that theory. In some culture men DO wear skirts…excuse me, I mean kilts, sarongs, etc… or just a loin cloth which seems a little binding to me. 😉

How does one urinate when wearing a loin cloth? A question I never pondered before today.

IDK, I have never seen one up close and personal. I will assume it is like a boxer short and has an opening for easy use. I bet if you searched on Bing there is an answer. 🙂

Best reason to wear a skirt ever. “You think I’m a lady because I’m wearing a skirt? Sych! I’m peeing surreptitiously!”

Yes, I do believe you’re right. I was thinking the same thing while watching Dancing with Wolves. You see her wading through the shallow water and only the very bottom of her dress (make of animal skin) is getting wet.

    Interesting. ..

This reminded me of when Moderate Daddy (who has 1 brother… no sisters) took Oldest to pee behind a tree at a park. (I hate when parks have no bathroom)

Moderate Daddy: “Babe… y’alls pee goes ever where!!”

Yes my dear… yes it does!!!

Interesting choice of words..to go with the flow… 🙂 It certainly is convenient, and you don’t have to deal with a stuck zipper, especially when matters become urgent.

I can’t understand why you would want to avoid it so much. I grew up spending a lot of time in the great outdoors, so it seems like the most natural thing in the world to me.

I grew up in central Florida, where if you squatted on the ground, you’d get chiggers. Or fire ants. Or worse. No, the ground was NOT a good place to put one’s lady bits.

I haven’t worn a skirt in a long time, dresses but not a skirt. As for peeing outdoors, skirts are ideal. I keep thinking though, I should buy a Shewee (you will need to Google) that would allow me to pee standing up for those necessary moments in time.

As someone who has peed outside a lot of times in her life, I just see no need for peeing standing up. I feel no inferiority and have no envy in this regard.

Skirts are also cool – they provide a little personal breeze wherever you go, if they aren’t pencil skirts or minis.

The breeze is so nice in hot weather. Especially with no underthings. Which makes me wonder if it could also be beneficial health-wise. Hmmm….

That is why pants took so long to catch on in cultures.
    Seriously.
If you think about it they’re not very convenient.
And why did they develop in Northern areas like China and Scandanavia?
    Again, practicality.
It gets quite drafty up there.
I dunno why the Scots took so long to get the hint. Maybe they were just too drunk to notice 😉

The Scottish Kilt culture is the most popular, bit there is a vivid tradition of the dress in Ireland and in Scandinavia. For the other nations with this tradition, it wasn’t a symbol of national identity to set themselves apart from the English.

True. They did want to set themselves apart from the rest of the world. Like Americans and parachute pants in the 1980s.

Sounds interesting, though I doubt that’s the reason why schools force all girls to wear uniforms, which consists of a button up shirt & buckled skirt.
