something to honk about

I am so disappointed in America

As usual, I’m a little behind on my TV watching. I haven’t finished watching the Voice episodes from last week yet. I’m half way through the second episode of live performances and so I have not seen the results show yet. But I checked the Artists page on the NBC site because I wanted to find out whether or not America kept my favorite competitor, Elijuh Rene. Gasp! Eliminated?! WTF America?! What’s the deal?

the Voice competitor Elijuh Rene

I thought this kid had a wicked good voice, a great attitude. I loved his whole persona and energy and in-the-moment-ness that he would exude on stage when he was performing. I. Don’t. Get. It. America does not agree with me. And I am So Disappointed. I know America and me don’t always see eye to eye. I’m against fracking and nuclear power. America indulges wantonly in those vices. We don’t always agree. But I thought, in my heart, that America would be with me on this one. Way to let me down America.

You should get the app on itunes to vote. Even if I don’t watch it that day, I still try to remember to vote that night before I go to bed or when I wake up the next morning. Sometimes if you know you like a person, you don’t have to see the performance to vote for your favorites.

He personally wasn’t my taste. I did like his personality, but didn’t feel like he had a real connection with the songs he was singing, so I felt maybe this competition wasn’t for him. I’d like to see some original songs from him though.

I don’t have a smart phone or itunes, I have tried voting on the website once, but it required a login or something and I hate signing up for a million different login accounts. So yeah, I don’t vote.

I am the epitome of someone who doesn’t vote, but still complains. And I should know better than to expect America to see things my way.

Do you remember Melanie Martinez from a couple seasons back? She was my favorite then and she was eliminated too. But her career has taken off independently and I’m happy about that. Not every artist needs the mainstream to achieve a level of success for themselves. (Although, being on the Voice sure can help, even the artists that are eliminated.)

I was disappointed too. I voted for him. Well, let’s see what happens tonight. This is my first season watching this show and I do like it – enough to watch it to the end… so far anyway.

Thanks for voting for him. I’m lame and I don’t even vote and then I complain when America eliminates someone I like – ha! 😀

Usally I don’t vote but after I downloaded the app and saw how easy it was I went for it. I am hoping that my top ten makes it past tonight’s show. LOL

If we can stay warm in Canada without using Nuclear Power, well…you get my point. As for your disappointment with America, I have to agree with Illinois on that simply because I gave my last TV to a guy who had no form of entertainment in his house once his wife left, and I have my laptop and all you wonderful people to keep me occupied learning how to post links in the comment section and other great stuff like that. Gee, I love you guys.

This post isn’t about nuclear power, smarty-pants 😉 – so I am not even going to go there.

Oh, gee. I’m almost a Philistine here. I have a TV, but barely watch it. “Reality” shows and those “This country has talent/This nation’s next idol” shows? You’ve got to be kidding me. The last show I watched, barbarians were sacking Rome.

So— no, I can’t agree with you on your talent pick simply because until just now I knew nothing about it. Since I live in Northern Illinois and the ability to turn on the lights and have heat here depend on nuclear power, it’s not likely I’ll agree much about nuclear power being bad either. The other choices available if you’re gonna live here look worse than nukes, unless you’re into changing your mind about coal, oil and natural gas— all of which seem to be in the cross-hairs of our nation’s “green lobby”.

Did you watch the video on this post? He is a great kid I think. I hope his career takes off now with this exposure, even though he has been eliminated.

If you have a nice reactor built by Siemens in a tectonically stabile area run by competent personnel, Nuclear power is really safe and clean. Those are three big if’s, however. I gave up on those voice of whatever, superstar and topmodel casting shows a long time ago. Truly good, professional musicians don’t need that

America already disappoints me by thinking the songs these artists sing are “music” vs. glorified karaoke.

Of course, I can’t sing at all, so good for them for trying but still…have a band competition for the next metal group or something.

Occasionally they’ll pick old songs that I am really in love with like anything by Elton John, last season a duo did the Eagles “Seven Bridges Road” which is not nearly as popular as “Hotel California” but it is way, way better, and then I get really excited. Plus, when you know the song well and you can compare it to the original, then you get a better idea of what the competitor is all about and just how talented (or not) they are. Just my take. 🙂

Are they really live performances if you aren’t watching them in the moment? And what’s wrong with causing well water to burn in Pennsylvania and earthquakes in Oklahoma?

It is especially complex to explain to my children what live performance means when we are not watching it live. And you know perfectly well what is wrong with drinking water that catches on fire. 🙂

Fracking. Good on Battlestar Galatica, no good everywhere else.
