more? or less?
Four years ago, I quit smoking marijuana. I took up drinking coffee as an alternative. It’s nice to have a habit. Coffee beans smell great. You heat the water, grind the beans, drip the coffee. And then it’s hot and strong and you sip it slowly, enjoying it. So I became a bit of a coffee drinker.
I’m really sensitive to the caffeine though, so I eventually settled into a routine of half a cup of very strong coffee in the mornings only. (It’s gotta be strong or – yuck.) And that worked for years.
Then, last summer, I took up smoking marijuana again. And with that habit I was able to mostly quit drinking coffee. And then in the fall when my kids went back to school and life got super busy, I cut way back on smoking again. Now it’s a little toke every other night maybe, after the kids are in bed.
And I still mostly don’t drink coffee, except for every once in a while, like today, I convince myself that one little half a cut won’t hurt and it’s sooooo Yummy.
I can’t handle the caffeine though, man. It’s intense. Just one strong half a cup and I can feel my heart. Like, just feel it, in my body. You’re not supposed to be able to feel your organs, that’s not good.
Short story long, I either need to drink coffee regularly so my body is used to it, or not drink it at all. More. Or less.
Are you a coffee drinker? How do you like it?
I hear ya!! I’ve been drinking coffee for years and had to go decaf. I started cutting myself off at 1p, then at noon, then I noticed that if I drank too much right at noon I’d have a problem sleeping. You would think after all these years I would have built up tolerance!

I used to be a raging caffeine addict, but then I realized caffeine is like a special torture for my anxiety disorder, so I decaffed. I don’t care what anyone says, I can’t taste the difference, and it’s nice not to feel like I’m dying!
I can have ONE cup of regular in the am (like if I’m at someone else’s house.) I can even have a soda or two, but not the beloved lattes and whatnot, with their 300 mgs of caffeine. No caffeine after 3 for me.

If you enjoy that decaf, then by all means… you can have mine, too!

Coffee is a requirement in our family. Some of my happiest times involve my gram and a pot of coffee.
How I drink it depends on my mood and what’s available… it can be so black and strong that the spoon stands at attention or I can add so many things that it’s “foofy” and pointless.
And yes, I am limited to two cups at most on a good day 🙂

I’d bet money that those were some of your gram’s happiest times as well then, what lovely memories to have.

Yeah, I had to switch to decaf over a year ago. And that sucks. I can drink Coke and tea and feel fine, but that coffee caffeine is much higher and can make me feel scatterbrained.

I refuse to do decaf, I’d rather go without.

I love, love, love coffee. The caffeine doesn’t do much to me either. I’ve probably built up a tolerance for it. I can drink a cup and head to bed.

I can drink it before bed too, and I don’t get an energy boost from drinking it either, not that I can tell. But I can feel my heart race. I’m weird.

I quit smoking weed four years ago and now they made it legal 😜 Maybe time to start back up again! 😎

I did start again, last summer, but not like I used to… I’m not up for that anymore!

Now, here’s me sounding like the old timer that I am… The stuff the kids are smoking these days is so much more powerful than in my day. I tried some and it put me on my butt for four hours! 😜 I need to be able to function! 😎👍

I know. I consider myself to be one of those kids b/c I’ve always had the strong stuff. But personal preference, I’d rather smoke a whole joint of shake than a tiny hit of dank.

I know what you mean about your heart racing after too much coffee. I am trying to stick to no more than 2 cups a day, and none after noon. Green tea gives me a lift (slightly) with less caffeine, but it’s not the same.

I want to like green tea because it is so good for you. But I just don’t really. I did find these Yogi teas that are a blend of black and green tea and other herbs. I like those.

Yeah, I don’t like it that much either, but I keep trying. Good black tea is better really.

i love dark roast. it has less caffeine but lots of flavor. i like it dark–but then i add honey & coconut milk. lots. or maple syrup & coconut milk. yum. also! i get it from a company in madison, wi (when i am in the area) called “just coffee.” they go above & beyond fair trade. they actually meet with and form relationships with their farmers. i try to find fair trade & locally roasted coffees–which makes my coffee that much more yummy.
also! i used to be a lot more sensitive than i am now. but i don’t know if it is tolerance or avoiding conventional coffees. i have found that conventional coffees still make me sick. i think there might be a chemical in the process?? that messes with me??

I only drink dark roast, too, and black. I don’t know what the point is if you put in all that other stuff 😉 Avoiding conventional coffee seems like a good idea for a lot of reasons. My love of coffee began before I ever drank it; when I worked at a health food store and it was my job to restock the bulk coffee bins. It was one of my favorite chores.

yeah, serious coffee drinkers have no respect for me. i just use coffee as a vehicle for sweet stuff. (i like my coffee like i like my men–strong but sweet ❤ )

I’d quit. I can drink a cuppa coffee and fall asleep! Not a good signal your body is sending you….

Yeah, I think that’s true.

Always more coffee!! J/k….can you try a French press or something that TASTES strong but isn’t just basically a cup of espresso? I don’t know how that would work. I was at five cups a day before this pregnancy. But I like it all milky so it’s less harsh on the tummy.

Oh, that reminds me, when I wrote about coffee two years ago, someone recommended a stove top espresso pot. Apparently that makes a strong cup with less caffeine some how. Would a french press be similar? I’ll have to look into it.

I drank very strong coffee for sixty years and then I began to feel my heart racing. I switched to decaf. It is not the same, I don’t enjoy coffee anymore.
Your body is sending you a message, listen.

I was going to buy some decaf coffee at the store and just smelling the beans was enough to convince me not to. Decaf beans don’t smell nearly as good. I’d rather just go without.

I love it, but can only handle 1 cup a day, highly sensitive to the caffeine..I actually begin to shake if I have more. ☺

That’s actually why I never drank coffee before. When I first went to college I was in the Architecture program at California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo. Back then, AutoCad was new and wasn’t even used until 4th and 5th year, so as a junior student we did all our drawings by hand. Coffee would make my hands shake so I couldn’t draw. That won’t work when you are pulling all nighters to get a big project done.

Life before AutoCad…I once worked in an engineering office…with drafting tables in the bullpen. ☺ old school.

Strong and at least two cups a day. But listen to your heart and cut it out!

Oh my gosh that’s terrifying!!! You really need to quit!!! I like coffee but I’m too cheap to buy it everyday 😅

And I hardly drink that much at all. Imagine people having four or five cups a day! I guess I’m just sensitive.
