Four years ago, I quit smoking marijuana. I took up drinking coffee as an alternative. It’s nice to have a habit. Coffee beans smell great. You heat the water, grind the beans, drip the coffee. And then it’s hot and strong and you sip it slowly, enjoying it. So I became a bit of a coffee drinker.
I’m really sensitive to the caffeine though, so I eventually settled into a routine of half a cup of very strong coffee in the mornings only. (It’s gotta be strong or – yuck.) And that worked for years.
Then, last summer, I took up smoking marijuana again. And with that habit I was able to mostly quit drinking coffee. And then in the fall when my kids went back to school and life got super busy, I cut way back on smoking again. Now it’s a little toke every other night maybe, after the kids are in bed.
And I still mostly don’t drink coffee, except for every once in a while, like today, I convince myself that one little half a cut won’t hurt and it’s sooooo Yummy.
I can’t handle the caffeine though, man. It’s intense. Just one strong half a cup and I can feel my heart. Like, just feel it, in my body. You’re not supposed to be able to feel your organs, that’s not good.
Short story long, I either need to drink coffee regularly so my body is used to it, or not drink it at all. More. Or less.
