I’m feeling pretty frickin’ irritated with everyone on fUbook (facebook) right now. Ever since the election, people be like “ahhhh!!!” Chickens with their heads cut off. The sky is falling. All because Donald Trump was elected President. And the DNC messed with the primaries and cock-blocked Bernie Sanders and forced the public to date Hillary Clinton. And Russia and Putin just may have thrown some weight in Trumps favor.
You’d think by the way people are reacting to this turn of events that we all lived in Utopia of Equality and Splendor up until this moment. And then one day they all woke up in the Reality Land of Disinformation and Squalor.
Really people? Donald Trump is the epitome of everything the United States stands for. He is the Great White Hype. Condescending, ignorant, and wildly successful if you define success=money. Which, last I checked, is exactly the way America, it’s media, and it’s fawning public define success. And now the people that stood by watching this culture develop, the same people that acquiesced and got along to go along, are going to now act shocked and horrified?
Man, I coulda told ya. Why didn’t you just ask?
I never wanted anything to do with all that popular mainstream American dream. Before I even became an adult, I knew it was a sham. I never bought in. It seemed pretty obvious to me.
Those of us who resisted have always been a tiny minority. We have been shamed for not fitting in. We have been shamed for our poverty, for our lack of materialistic ideals.
We are perhaps a growing tiny minority. Still, most people have wool over their eyes. They think we can maintain the ideals of the American Dream and just add more equality for races and genders. But it won’t work. It’s counterfeit to the core. The power elite have sold them an image, smoke and mirrors. It’s not real. It never existed. It never will. It’s just a tool to take the resources of the populace and turn it into wealth for a very few. It has always been that way.
That’s why I can’t stand to scroll through fakebook (facebook) and see more posts of news stories and petitions to sign. It is such a massive waste of time and energy, accomplishing nothing. At least here on WordPress people are putting real energy into writing, creating, and conversing.
Thanks y’all. For being awesome. For being present. For thinking and speaking and writing your truth.
Is Facebook really that awful? Is WordPress really that great? Is the sky actually falling? What do you think?
Great Post. I’ll be back. Not in a Schwarzenegger way!
FWIW I lasted exactly 3 days on FB after my family goaded me into joining.

Facebook is not awful. It keeps me in touch with everybody and I’ve found a lot of it very informative and encouraging.
WordPress is great, but it lacks the real time chat element I enjoy on Facebook. I want to know people better at WordPress. I get frustrated by the pace, though I love what I get to do here.
The sky is not falling. God is in His heaven and here with is in the Spirit. I’m reassured and comforted, strengthened and encouraged.
Happy New Year!

Then all it takes is a good shepherd. Only the shepherds are wolves. And those that aren’t get bullets – blap, blap. Or wooden crosses.

I stopped being active on fb years ago, already then it seemed to mostly just consist of people sharing propaganda, presenting opinions as fact, pressuring people to “like” this or that because otherwise they’re BAD PEOPLE ™, etc etc. The few good posts drowned!

Don’t forget the “repost this….or repost that” IF you’re a good person, haha! Bleh!

It’s great to hear from you and others that they are not active on deFacebook at all. It seems like everybody and their aunt is there, all the time. I’m glad that is not reality.

I love my WordPress, but find it sadly lacking in more immediate interaction such as chat messaging. If it had that I would be an awfully happy camper….
I can mostly control what I see on Facebook, though stuff slips through and can get in my face at times. I’m not there as much as I used to be but I value the connections and the immediacy of that still.

Hmm, interesting. I don’t really use chat messaging on FB. I wonder if a lot of people do?

i had to quit facebook. it seems to suck my soul. i always leave it angry & frustrated. so i have to agree with you. i find i have more in common with “strangers” on wordpress than with “friends” on facebook.
there is more of a conversation here.

It’s a little different for me. I actually have lots in common with “friends” on FB, but I get more satisfaction in engaging in thoughtful dialog with “strangers” on WP who I have less in common with. That’s probably because I’m weird. π

There are still too many comfortable people, educated people who consider themselves “liberal” ( a term that became distasteful to me a few decades ago) to expect much to change. Disillusioned baby boomers like myself need to grasp the fact that their illusions, and not reality, are what troubles them so. They still wish they could petition the king to take his boot off their throats, as if he would listen. The thing about younger folks like yourself is that the illusions almost never were there in the first place. Thus, the will to organize and do battle is not as strong as it was with us during Vietnam etc. because a good outcome is not expected. Plus there are not so many of you. But until people realize that it’s going to take risking injury, incarceration, or even death, we will have to be content with bitching and moaning while the empire crumbles and humanity accelerates toward extinction. There’s your happy thought for today. Thanks.

Happy thoughts! Happy thoughts! But what about this Jerry? What if we don’t have to fight and put our bodies on the line? The empire would crush us. What if it could be countered by dropping out, instead? If we choose not to work for corporations, not to bank with corporations, not to shop at corporate stores. What if so many people made those choices that the empire would crumble instead? It’s still not easy. There are still risks and difficulties, no doubt. But perhaps it is fighting smart, not strong.

Agreed. This is the preferable way to fight, but it still requires organization and there would be repercussions whenever it became a real threat. But it would feel really good and have good effect. Many of us are doing those things as individuals and that is the least we can do and it feels good too.

I haven’t been on FB for over four years now. Can’t stand the vitriol. The only thing that pops up there is my automatic notice when I have a new post on WP. At least here, I can control the tone of the discussions on my own blog.
And I agree with your assessment of Mainstream American Dream. I’m in the minority with you, thinking before we speak or write. I also think lots of folks are going to be disillusioned very fast. That is, if they’re honest with themselves.

I got sucked back into FB when my step-brother and his wife had a baby – my first nephew. I love him, ah!
I pretty much agree with you, except I see people becoming disillusioned SLOW, too slow. You say “that is, if they’re honest with themselves”. Exactly. They are not being honest with themselves. That is not easy to do, I guess.

No, it isn’t, especially when one has emotionally invested so much in one person “saving” America. This is exactly why we should never worship any human being.

The sky is totally falling. I think we’re at the part in the bad dream where we know we’re falling, but it takes so long to fall and we just want to get it over with so we can wake up.
And that’s a perfectly good reason to be on WP and to eat another cookie π
