The Honking Goose

something to honk about

they’re still riding the Bernie train

For no good reason, my off-topic, somewhat irrelevant thoughts on Bernie Sanders.

So Far Left I'm Right

I never got on board.  Just about everyone I know boarded the Bernie Sanders train and most of them are still riding it on the railroad tracks to nowhere land.  Early on in the campaign, before the Democratic party stole the primary and handed it to Hillary, when Bernie Sanders was gaining ground and gaining popularity… oh, my liberal friends were eating it up.  They loved his unpolished demeanor and his message of equality, inclusiveness, and bold promises of public spending on healthcare, education, support for Planned Parenthood and Black Lives Matter.

Don’t get me wrong, I welcome those messages as well, especially in contrast to the lying, posturing, corporate greed and warmongering of the other candidates.  I agree with Bernie Sanders on the goals of equal opportunity and justice.  I suspect he doesn’t know shit about economics, but I don’t understand that stuff well enough myself to be sure.

I believe there will be someone in the wings who will come forward and lead the Democratic Party. Sanders is just to old and his ideas although great and progressive gives away the pantry without thoughts to restocking it. Warren has to much baggage and that is what hurt Hillary. Clinton became to much of a drag on her and she looked tired. No someone young is out there. I secretly believe the young Kennedy would make a decent vice president. Like Biden but age is against him. Look for Cuban, Dwayne Johnson and other sportspeople and actors to get involved as they have the money and the charismatic following. Whether they can actually govern is another matter but they might give it a try, I hope not for ego sake but what do I know said the fool on the hill.

Do you think Oprah will run? I’ve heard her name thrown around.

I like Oprah but I do not think of her as a President. I think the backlash would be to great. The country is definitely anti-Black. It is a shame but I do think the deck is stacked against her.

Man, this country is not anti black. That’s just a propaganda narrative. If you actually talk to people, they don’t think like that.

I hope Bernie runs again in 2020. We need someone with progressive views to fix what this administration is fucking up. Which is just about everything.

I’d take Elizabeth Warren over Bernie Sanders, but she keeps saying she doesn’t want the job.

People over rate the presidency. Warren would be much more effective where she is. The prez is much more controlled than most people seem to think.

That’s what I’ve heard her say as well, so I will take her word on that. No one good ever wants to be President. It’s a shitty job and super dangerous and lots of people hate them.

I was very much into Sanders’ campaign even though it involved the Democratic party and of course they would not permit it to continue even though all that energy and enthusiasm was good. Why? Because both major parties feed at the same trough and social justice is never going to be part of their makeup save for rhetorical flourishes when needed. But you make a good point. So long as people prefer to make saviors out of ordinary people rather than organize en masse the really rich will continue to rule. People are unsophisticated in the U.S. and prefer television celebrities like president Tweety that they can love or hate in between commercials. The campaign against education for the last forty years or so has worked–we are a nation of know nothings.

It’s a great feature of our nation that we have the freedom to access to so much information. It is out there. Most people don’t seem to be able to do much with that information though. I suspect that having lots of calories relatively devoid of nutrition has an enormous impact on people, affecting their mood, energy, and intellectual capabilities.

As for the Democratic party, it infuriates me that they hacked their own primaries. Such a disgrace. It would have been so interesting to see how a Sanders vs. Trump election would have played out.
