The Honking Goose

something to honk about

trolls are all twelve, give them a break

I’ve read quite a few rants lately about trolls on the internet. They’re haunting your blogs and making disrespectful comments. They’re spouting off complete drivel on unrelated posts. It sounds annoying. The Honking Goose is too new to have these problems. If I’m lucky, someday I’ll be able to commiserate with you about how irritating it is. For now, I’m going to offer a reality check. To you, and to future super annoyed me.

What I do, or I should say what I would or will do, is assume that every troll is a twelve year old seeking attention. Sure, some of them are actual grown adults who should know better. But imagine for a moment that the troll under your bridge is a twelve year old kid sitting at home with a hand-me-down IPad while s/he waits for her/his single parent to come home from work and give them some parental support before sending them to bed because they have to get up the next morning and go to 7th grade.

They may be spamming you with all kinds of ignorant nonsense about grown-up topics, but are they really a grown-up stupid person, or are they just a kid pretending? Remember there are millions of young people with access to internet and they haven’t had the years of experience yet to learn how to maturely handle it all. Even grown-ups make mistakes.

I first had access to AOL chatrooms when I was sixteen and the internet was so new, my parents didn’t have a clue what was going on. I can tell you I did not always make the best choices. So if I were you (or future me) I would tread lightly with these pushy, instigating trolls.Ā  They might be only a child.

Honk at me! Tell me your troll story and I’ll try to guess whether it was a grown-up stupid person or just a kid pretending.

I’ve read that people complain about trolls but it hasn’t happened to me yet. I guess the secret is not to pay attention to them, I mean nobody forces a person to follow a blog.

I have lots of troll stories but I will be nice and not regurgitate here. I will however tell about the person I was chatting with online. I was trying to give a shoulder to a person I thought had just lost his wife (to death) and was raising two young children on his own. I have experience in the grief department (luck of the draw). The story had me in knots but as the tears rolled down my cheeks the person then said she was a teenage girl and she was happy that she could hurt someone. šŸ˜¦ I’ll never forget it.

People take advantage of others’ goodwill. Sometimes I think I have that sign on me that says, “Kick me.” Oh, and I am a troll–well, my icon is at the moment–the one with the yellow hair šŸ˜€ . Take care! šŸ™‚

I thought I’d already replied to this comment. Anyway, your story perfectly illustrates why its ridiculous to get too invested in comments people make when you don’t even really know where they’re coming from. It’s too bad though, because there are a lot of wonderful people out there in the internet ether to connect with. But we can’t trust everyone.

The Owl salutes The Honking Goose. Thanks for the follow and we’ll be back, possibly to troll or possibly just to read and enjoy.

I just feed trolls to my Saint Bernard and English Bulldog. It saves money on dog food that way. Okay you got me, I don’t really do that. I have never had a troll visit because I write safe and boring crap…lol.

Well where do I begin? I’ve been told…

    1) I hope you burn in hell.
    2) I hope your daughters are raped so you can understand the power of abortion.
    3) I hope you die.
    4) I hope you move from Colorado.
    5) Fuck off! (Of course they added a lot more dialogue to this)
    6) I want to punch you in the face.

Those are just a few from this year actually. šŸ™‚

No troll stories yet, but sure you are right: younger or older, but they are definitely immature šŸ™‚
