something to honk about

want more money? here’s how to get it

There are plenty of people out there eager to give advice on how to get rich. If you pay them. And coincidentally, there are loads of suckers who foolishly give their hard earned money away to these get-rich-gurus for the opportunity to learn the tricks and secrets to wealth. How retarded! If these experts had real expertise on how to legitimately make loads of money, they wouldn’t have to fleece people by putting on wealth seminars.

The problem is that everyone is looking for the easy answer. The only easy ways to be wildly wealthy are 1) be born that way; or 2) inherit money. That’s it. If you weren’t born rich and you aren’t the direct descendent of someone rich, you’re out of luck. Having lots of money will be hard work for you.

Now that we’ve gotten clarity on the basic foundation of the wealth situation, let’s look at some real ways to get more money.

1. Get a(nother) job. Start with one. If that’s not enough, get another one. Make something. Sell something. Mow a lawn. Babysit someone’s kid. Lots of options here. Jobs are hard work, but that’s the whole point. That’s why people get paid to do them.

2. If you really don’t want to get a(nother) job, then it’s time to accept that your cash flow situation is likely to stay pretty much the same in the near future.

3. In that case, spend less money. You’d think this would be obvious, but a lot of people overlook this solution. They tend to think they need more money because there are more things they want to buy. But almost all of us could buy less if we really, really had to. Like if there was no other choice. And if that’s the case then maybe we’re not doing so bad after all.

4. Did you think there was going to be a 4? There isn’t. 4 is a joke. Go back and read 1 thru 3.

Disclaimer: If this isn’t the uplifting news you wanted to hear, then we’re in the same boat. You and me, pal. I wrote this because I’m looking for a job right now. I don’t really want to give up my free time or have less energy for my kids, but I need to help my husband provide for our family. So I’m taking a tough love approach with myself. This is my own wake up call. I’m pretty sure if you and I heed my advice, we’ll up our cash flow in a timely manner. No promises though. If it doesn’t work, don’t blame me.

Until last month, I had been out of work for an entire year following a layoff. We were introduced to some concepts that had theretofore been foreign to us. Things like unemployment benefits, welfare and standing in food lines for hours. It gives one a new perspective on money and on life in general. If you’re willing to work in Sacramento, the state is hiring like mad right now. If you are interested, give me a shout.

A lot of the things you hear about making money are “opportunities,” as opposed to “jobs.” At a job you have to show up every day, etc. I get embarrassed when someone I know and likes thinks that setting tupperware/pampered chef/scentsies candles or whatever is a job.

Well if someone can be independent and sell something like that and make money, I applaud them. I couldn’t pull it off. I need the type of job where you have to show and there’s work to do and you get paid.

You’re my kind of girl! I raised my kids to believe that there’s plenty of money – you just need to work for it … and you don’t need every new electronic device, a tv in every room or a new car every 3 years.

That’s so true! This may be your very best blog even though the others are good too. Hey! Maybe you could make money from those who need common sense lol.

Thoughts – if common sense was something you could sell then… well, I wouldn’t want to sell my own, I know that.

Very sound advice from the Honking Goose – I recently did a quick review of the housekeeping and realised I was buying out of habit rather than necessity…just in case! Made a few changes and will put the saved towards Christmas….

Having had no choice but to spend less for many years now, it is extraordinary what you can do without. It’s a sad world that pressures us to believe, through advertising, that we can’t do without ‘this’ or ‘that’ or the ‘other’. Good luck with the job hunt!

Yes, me too. We’ve been on such a limited budget for so long now that I think it’s become a permanent habit. I may always be stingy about money from now on, even if our situation changes. I can only hope I get to find out. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks for the well wishes!

Wow, I can not tell you how much this post made me smile. Right when I read the title
I was like ‘This is going to be good!’ It makes me smile now and the reason it does is because when I was younger I tried to find the easy ways. I looked up article after article of get rich fast plans. Ultimately I realized what this article states, you wanna get rich fast? Then you better be ready to work your ass off for it.

Wonderful post! Hope you have a wonderful day.

I’m glad to hear it made you smile. It made me feel kinda cranky as I wrote it, because I was thinking about how right I was and wishing it weren’t so. Maybe I’ll find a duffle bag full of money in the middle of the street today and prove myself wrong. That would make me smile. ๐Ÿ˜‰
